Grandbaby Blankees – easy to sew and cuddly soft!

Sweet Blankees for my Sweet Grand daughter 💖

I love my grand-babies!  They bless my heart! When my precious little granddaughter was born, I made a stack of soft cuddley blankets for her and a couple soft ones  to keep at “Grama’s house”   when she comes to visit.

They were simple and easy to make.

If you have some basic sewing skills you will easily be able to make these, and even young girls would have fun learning beginner sewing skills, making this project!

First, I checked my fabric stash for the softest fabrics in pinks and baby girl prints I had on hand.   Then I picked out a couple more super soft fabrics from my local fabric store to use for the backside.

After gathering my fabrics I decided on the size, and then I simply cut them out, pulled out trims I had on hand and sewed them up! That’s the short version.

I have EASY full sewing instructions down below, but first here, I will give you the fabric and trim details to exactly what I did for each lovely soft blankee, so you can make some too!

The first one I made was super soft out of a cute duckling fabric. I added a pretty pink silky edge to it, and it actually turned out to be my favorite one!  I hope it’s hers too!

The next one below, was from a piece of leftover soft fuzzy baby pink fabric, I had in my craft cupboard.

On this one I stitched a lil tag that said  “hand made by Grandma” on it. The backside of this one I used a flannel print with pink rose buds! Again it was super soft and was leftover from a night gown I made my youngest daughter years back. This one turned out darling too!

The 3rd one I made was a soft ‘pink paw print’ from fleece fabric! Her mamma (my daughter- in- law) raises puppies and so I thought a puppy paw print would be really cute for her and well liked.  To this one I sewed some bright yellow rick-rack along the edge, to give it a cheerful pop of color.  The backside of this pawprint blankee, I used a solid pink fleece. And I hope my daughter-in-law will love this one.

Since I had enough paw print to make another blankee with, I did another, and this one I backed with a soft lavender pin-dot fabric. Then I used a scalloped stitch on my machine, to top stitch around the edges.  It looks very girlish and I think it turned out really cute.

The duckling fabric really was my favorite, it was velvet soft and with those pink hearts it was so cuute! I had enough to make a second duckling blankee and that one I backed with a pink heart flannel print, which I thought ended up adorable. I didn’t have any more of the silk edging as I edged the first duck one with, so I just picked out a stitch on my machine, and again I just did a decorative top stitching and used a bright pink thread for that.

Now when all the blankees were finished, I folded them up and tied them into a pretty stack with a piece of bright ribbon, I had on hand. Then I gave them to my daughter-in-law when she & lil one came to visit Grama 💖

Sewing Directions:

First Choose your size. I made mine size 36in. x 36in. I used 2 fabrics, one for front that was soft fleece fabric  and one pc. for back side, which was a soft flannel. (I Prewashed all my fabrics ahead).

I cut out 2 pcs. one for the front and one for the back. (Easy right 🙂

Put right sides together and sewed all sides just leaving about 8 inches or so to turn them right side out. Next: I turned them right side out and ironed the edges to lay flat. Then I just simply sewed on the edging and top stitched at the same time so they’d lay nice and  flat…. and they were done! (I sewed the opening closed at the time I topstited them as well). I told ya these were pretty easy!

So if you know of some babies on the way, I hope you’ll give these easy baby blankees a try!
