Thousand Island Dressing

If you’re looking for a 1000 Island Dressing that tastes better than Kraft, this is it! My husband loved Kraft 1000 Island Dressing but I just cringed every time he poured that sugar ladened and chemical preserved dressing over top of a beautiful plate of salad greens, topped with fresh veggies that I’d plate up for him.

Finally, I got determined to make a homemade dressing that he’d love just as much. My benchmark or criteria you could say was: NO white sugar, NO soy or canola oil it had to taste great with my good ole healthy avocado oil, and yet it had to TASTE FAB to his approval! Oh but that wasn’t all…..this dressing had to taste so good, that when our grown kids came over to eat with us, they would love it too!

You see quite a few of my grown kids also very much like Thousand Island dressing. So if I was going to stop buying it, then my recipe had to meet the ” Servable” label!

To meet my standard for being labeled “servable” here! Let me explain, it means – “It’s tastes so good that I can SERVE it, to anyone who joins us for dinner, confidently and know they will not suspect its healthy but will love it too! You see it’s not hard to make something I LIKE, or that HEALTHY People may LIKE, but servable has to be LOVED BY ALL BEING SERVED.…. and that servable label my dear friends is hard to reach sometimes!

Well I’m happy to say…..

This one past all the tests!

Indeed, I knew I had my work cut out for me, my husbands a tough cookie when it comes to me trying to “health-i-fy something aaand get it to taste GREAT….. as good as store bought! I can make healthy things that taste good, all the time……..But Great! Servable, that’s a higher level!

It’s commonly joked around here, that I am always trying to ”health-i-fy” something 🙂

Well I’m here to share with you, this one is a hit, it took a few try’s and a couple tweaks, but this one has won with flying colors!

The other thing to love about this recipe its soooo EASY!!!!

It only has 6 Simple ingredients

….and you probably have all of them on hand already!

Note – use the best ketchup you can, preferably not one ladened with high fructose corn syrup, also use a good healthy mayonnaise, (or homemade mayo) and you’ll end up with a wonderful, healthy, delicious, and “servable” dressing!

(My ketchup brand only has 2 g of sugar, it’s made with carrot puree, butternut puree and it tastes deeelish! No, I earn nothing off ketchup, but I love to share with you, cuz it’s a very tasty one! See below)

This recipe is so easy your kids could help make it!

Goodbye to artificial flavors, icky preservatives, EDTA, emulsifiers, high fructose corn syrup and soy & canola oil! (Unsure what EDTA is, for starts its use is restricted and banned in some countries because of health risks. It’s an ingredient I try to avoid as much as possible, but that’s for another time).

Oh did I mention this dressing is wonderful on wraps in place of mayo, also great on top of burgers as a special sauce, and even fab mixed with a lil BBQ sauce, it turns into something similar to a Chick-fila dipping sauce. So now you just “health-i-fied” all those too

If you have my Shake On The Goodness Course or have watched any of my other Seasoning videos, I always explain in them, why I use garlic and onion “granules” for those 2 spices instead of powdered. It’s to get away from the anti-caking agents that are put into the powders! I use ALOT of both those spices and I don’t want to consume anti-caking agents daily with my daily shakes of garlic and onion. The granules don’t cake up like powders do (yay humid summer weather 🙂 and therefore do not contain anti-caking agents, yet they are fine like salt and blend very very easily!

So that’s the free tip for today but so much more is taught in my Shake On The Goodness classes!
